This issue is the third of what I originally thought would be a two-part series on the “Roaring Twenties”. The decade is so significant, and yet I still haven’t written all the stories I feel best epitomize the era. Soooooo I will wrap it up with a fourth(!) in the next issue (I promise!). Again, in honor of the magazine’s fifth anniversary I have spliced in some articles from the archives.

● The Decade That Changed America Part 3: “The Roar”. The 1920s are commonly remembered as a time of prosperity and frivolity wedged between two disasters, World War I and the great stock market crash of 1929 . . . . The wild behavior the period is famous for became part of the legend of the Roaring Twenties, a decade-long New Year’s Eve party followed by a decade-long massive hangover called the Great Depression.

● The Decade That Changed America Part 4: In Other News. After reading a number of books and articles about the Roaring Twenties, I came across other stories not necessarily directly related to the “Roar”, but important nonetheless because in most cases they generated significant nationwide attention. Here are a few I selected.

● Family History Toolbox

● Believe it or not . . . stranger things have happened. From the archives, this article is a fun one highlighting one of the craziest fads of the Roaring Twenties. “Old Rip the Horned Toad” caused quite a furor all over the country!

● Did You Know: The “Maiden Namers”. Lucy Stone was noteworthy for many things. But, who was Lucy Stone? I discovered she just might be one of the feistiest feminists – right along with the likes of Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton – and someone who is often overlooked.

Enjoy the issue! I am looking forward to (finally!) wrapping up this fascinating series in the next issue – featuring extensive articles on other significant events of this fascinating era.
